Title: “Dirty hands, clean money” Course: Advanced Photography Artist: Megan Taggart Teacher: Mrs. Gollan Subject Matter: The reflection of two hard working men in my lifeMedium: Gloves, money Project Goal: I learned that when bouncing between ideas, take the harder route. Go challenge yourself. Personal Review/Evaluation and Critique: I really liked this project, I just wish I didn't stress myself out about it too much. If I was more relaxed and had more supplies, I would be more proud of my piece. I am happy with the story behind it though. I used value and form, being the gloves. I also used Emphasis in the glove color to really bring out the “hard working” aspect. Elements of Art - Texture, color, and value. These are important because it's eye catching and engages the viewer. Value was shown in the gloves, color in the gloves as well, and texture of the dirt on them, representing "dirty hands, clean money."
Research: For this project I struggled between many different metaphors. I chose to do “hard work pays off” or “dirty hands, clean money.” There wasn't much research to this project, but lots of inspiration. There are two important people in my life who reflect what hard work looks like. The first being my father; he went to school to become an electrician. Long story short, he got injured too much and had to change jobs. With nobody able to hire him because of his injuries, he started his own business, Taggart’s Auto Transport. He's gone 10 months out of the year, coming home every other week, working hard so we can live the lives we want. Thinking about this, I could never transport car's myself as a living, hence why I look up to my father's hard work. The second hard working figure in my life is my boyfriend, Ryan Wyskiel. Graduated this past June, he chose his career path of becoming a welder. The long days, hard days, and precise tasks he accomplishes can really overwhelm him. As he told me once, “If it's something i'm not proud enough to put my name on, then it's not good enough.” With all the stress and hard working days Ryan and my father go through, this project reflects them and how their hard work has either started them a family and amazing life, or how if you work hard enough, those days pay off.
